When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and that he intended to audition people like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least bring it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was being brought into the project, which would generate interest from other notable actors.

And the rest of the show is great too

And Jessica is perfect

He has a weird, idiotic self-assured energy that’s needed for this role. His humor is perfect for dialogue. This is the new way of sitcom drama. Not one-notes, just attractive personalities with a hint of quirkiness and family circumstances that are slightly off but still relatable.

You will lose your license immediately

Of course, Jimmy’s behavior as a therapist is completely absurd. Simply impossible. But we allow metaphorical situations in drama. And in this script we feel a strong sense of purpose in the decisions.

For me it’s easy and fun

We have to give credit to the writers and try to capture the essence. Other critics apparently had a hard time.
