A heretic is as unpredictable as he is erratic

Although the film keeps you in suspense for most of the time, the plot begins to run out of steam in the final act. Hugh Grant gives an outstanding performance, and Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East also shine in their roles.

Unfortunately, the plot is the weakest point of the film

The director, cinematographer and set designer also deserve praise as they gradually immerse you in the growing madness of Grant’s character and his haunted house. The tension and mystery builds nicely at first, but somewhere around the two-thirds mark, they start to unravel.

The climax left me a little disappointed as I was expecting something deeper

Still, The Heretic is an excellent horror film in its own right—enjoyable, but not as memorable as I’d hoped.
